"The Virtual eXchange J5000 (VX) performs the functions of a multiplexer, router, circuit switch and frame switch, and is designed for voice and data applications. This combination of access and switching options gives you the flexibility and freedom to change technologies as our business needs change. The J5000 is a modular system comprising of a chassis with common logic and inbuilt power supply. The chassis houses interface and utility modules to suit access and switching options, and the application environment. All modules are nterchangeable between J5000 systems, allowing alterations and moves to be accommodated easily. Each J5000 is equipped with a router to natively handle LAN protocols, eliminating the need for an external router. Furthermore, support for SNA, X.25 and other protocols is provided via a HDLC handler that transparentlytransports all HDLC based protocols over Frame Relay. Two trunk modes of operation are currently supported by the J5000: Time Mode and TimeFrame™ Mode. Time Mode - both voice and data are carried in separate Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) slots. TimeFrame™ Mode - voice is carried in dynamic TDM time slots allocated on a per call basis, ensuring high quality and predictable delivery. Data, management information and signalling are carried in the remaining trunk bandwidth over Frame Relay, taking advantage of the bandwidth efficiencies."
